(lack of) april showers

Hi there. Remember me? I took a nice, loooooong blogging break. It was planned. I didn't tell you. Sorry.

The month of April tends to be a hard one around here, and I didn't need to whine about it on my blog. Fortunately, April turned out to be superiffic in so many ways, and I want to post (almost) daily from now on.

April didn't bring much rain up here, so our fire season might turn out to be a doozy. A forest fire burned about 1200 acres just south of us. AJ and I tried to chase it down on our way to our friends' house for dinner. We would have had to go another 20 miles or so to see flames, but here is what it looked like about a mile from our house on Sunday.

This past weekend we saw the Bloomquists twice - at the park for brats and beer (I made a delicious strawberry trifle, but didn't get a pic), and then down at their place for grilled pizza and kite flying. The guys have been learning to play guitar, and managed to fit in a jam session just before sunset on Sunday.

We have had lovely temps, and my flowers dig the warmth and the little bit of moisture we have had. Here's the first blooming perennial, a bergenia. I just love these plants - they're evergreen and bloom early.

As for crafting and thrifting, I haven't really been doing either. Thrifting has mostly yielded summer clothes and toys for The Boy, while crafting has taken an indefinite hiatus because of the never-ending studio redo (I will say that the end is in sight, but I've been the procrastination queen when it comes to the one thing that will finish it up - painting my cabinet). With garden season in full-swing, I'm not sure how much of either I'll squeeze in this month.

Hope you had a lovely May Day! I'll leave you with today's sunset.
