there's a lion at my door

Rawr! Happy March!

We're all hunkered down, riding out an amazing blizzard with wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph and a couple feet of snow expected before things settle down tomorrow. Have you seen this monster storm system?

We have the head of it, and these storms always dump a bunch of snow on us. The tops rotate counterclockwise, picking up moisture from Lake Superior and then dropping tons of flakes on us with a stiff northeast wind. Nor'easters also tend to linger a little longer than other storms. The snow started late last night with just a few flakes, and is expected to be heaviest tonight. Forecasters expect things to finally settle down sometime Saturday.

Remember that warm-and-melty sunset pic I took the other day? Here's the same vantage point at about 3 p.m. today:

White out, baby!

We've been watching this storm trek here since earlier this week, and I went into prep mode yesterday. Besides fresh water and canned food and matches and flashlight batteries, I made sure I had these:

I picked up a couple magazines at the store, and then came home to several more in my mailbox. They're all decorating/how-to types with some inspiring ideas for the remodeling we've been planning. I grabbed a cuppa peppermint tea and browsed through these while the boy napped.

AJ will probably take off from work tomorrow. They closed the highway he usually drives to and from the courthouse, so he needed to take an alternate route home. We will truly have a snow day tomorrow.

What do you do to pass the time when you're housebound? I think we'll be watching movies and then going out to play in all the snow. Maybe I'll even get some crafting done, and perhaps we'll play some cards and games. Any other ideas?
