around the house Thursday: frost and blisters

We had a sparkling, frosty morning here today. The light coming into my studio windows while the sun crept up over the trees just begged to be photographed, and I gladly obliged.

I don't think we have had any frosted-window mornings yet this year. I really love frost, and don't want to think about the day we end up having double-paned windows because that will be the death of these intricate patterns.

After getting breakfast together for Alden, I headed downstairs to throw some logs in our furnace. We've been heating with wood for five years now, so you'd think I'd know to watch my fingers. Apparently not.

As a chucked a log into the stove, it slipped and pinched the pad of my left index finger against the bottom of the door frame. I do believe I quitely whispered, "Mommy!" Then, tears welled up in my eyes, I bit my lip and assessed the damage. It looks like this:

Lesson learned: Wear gloves when working with wood, woman!

The blood blister made finishing up my ornaments a tad ... interesting ... and slow. Thankfully, I did finish them, though, and they will be in the mail tomorrow. I'll show pics then, so come back. :)

Just a note from someone from the ornament swap. Thanks so much! Yours is great. I'm mailing mine today, so you should get it soon. Can't wait until next year!
