Did I mention April sucks?

The day started out all sunny and fine. AJ moved the car to get Dew's truck into position for loading and hauling some of the construction debris from our yard.

He popped the stuff in the truck, then went to move the car back for me to follow him up to Dew's. There was only one slight problem. The car's front tire lay mired nearly up to the axle in mud! No amount of swearing, cajoling or pushing moved it, so we had to call for a tow.

Tow total: $83!

So, then AJ went to the dump, and I went into town to run errands before meeting him at Dew's later on. Everything went fine; I even cleaned most of the mud off the car.

We had a nice visit at Dew's, then headed to the Black Cat for lunch, and the Co-op for groceries. Still just ducky.

Upon returning home, I noticed Vaca (one of our seven cats) laying in the ditch. He was looking aroubd, but just sitting there.

"That's weird," AJ said. "He was there when the tow truck came this morning."

I immediately knew he had been hit by a car.

AJ went to check on him while I brought groceries in. When I came out, he told me to call the vet. It appeared Vaca's legs were both broken. So, I called. Our friend Dan, was on-call this weekend.

We brought Vaca in, had him examined and x-rayed. No broken bones, but paralyzed from the "waist" down. He still has reflexes in his hind end, which is good. He can't walk though.

So, we are in wait-and-see mode. I hate wait-and-see. The last time we did this, Sonja (our wonderful husky mutt) died on the living room floor of kidney failure.

However, we've come to a decision. If Vaca has no pain, and the only thing holding him back from a good life are a couple of dead legs, we are going to get him a cart to haul the suckers around. Many people have disabled animals who use carts to "walk."

Please keep your fingers crossed for us and our kitty. I'll keep you posted.
